Step-by-Step CamStudio Installation (Free Video Screen Capture software)
Here are your step-by-step instructions on how to install CamStudio (video screen capture) software and the best part is it’s not gonna cost you a penny, yep it’s free! I have been asked many times before which software I use to record my screen capture videos. So here goes!
STEP #1 Go to http://CamStudio.org – you should land on a page that looks like this…
STEP #2 Scroll down the page until you see a bunch of links. Click on the first link.
STEP #3 On the next page click on the link that says “Download CamStudio 2.6b (4.5 MB)”.
STEP #4 You will see a countdown box at the top of this next page (first image box below). The box will read “Your CamStudio – Desktop Screen Recorder download will start in x seconds…” The countdown happens quickly (around 5 seconds). Immediately after, you will get a pop up box (second image box below). Click on “Save File”.
STEP #5 You will now see the following image…
STEP #6 Once the progress bar is completed, this next box will pop up…
STEP #7 Immediately you will see an OPEN FILE – SECURITY WARNING pop up box. Click on “Run”.
STEP #8 The next pop up box will have two options (CANCEL & ALLOW). Click on “Allow”
STEP #9 Then click on “Next”
STEP #10 Select “I accept the agreement”, and then click on “Next”
STEP #11
STEP #12
STEP #13
STEP #14
STEP #17
STEP #18 – Congratulations! Your CamStudio installation is complete!
On my next blog post I teach you the Basic Settings for CamStudio.
Leave me a comment about what you think of CamStudio. If you have any questions contact me in the contact form tab up at the top of this page. For those of you who have tried to contact me via that form recently, it’s working now
.
Again, this is great for those just starting out with video marketing. The screen capture software highly recommended in the online marketing industry is Camtasia, which costs around $299. Send your friends over here so they can install CamStudio for free and they can start recording their tutorials!
Of course, I always appreciate you spreading the word. The Facebook and Twitter share buttons are right at the top of this post. I look forward to learning from you on your screen capture tutorials!

Hi Jaclyn,
great instructions on how to install Camstudio.
I have used camstudio and I am still learning more about it, looking forward to your next post about it.
There seem to be lots of different settings people use which I found a bit confusing. What settings work for you?
Thank you for posting this.
Cheers,
Yorinda

Hi Jaclyn,
I downloaded camstudio a while ago, and while it has a basic screen capture function, I would not compare it with Camtasia! I use the latter and Sony Vegas Platinum and between them they do just about everything you can imagine with video.
For those starting out into screen capture videos, Camstudio is fine. I would say that very soon you will want to spend the $299 and upgrade to camtasia!

There are many valid reasons why CT is better than CS for sure John. Definitely, CS is an excellent starting point for those getting started with video marketing.

I have used Cam studio for a number of applications and have had a generally good experience with it. It did take a little bit of trial an error with the settings to get the best result, but it does have some pretty cool functions, especially considering it is free!

Yes it does take some time to get the settings right. On my next blog post about CamStudio I will suggest some basic settings. And for a free software it does have some cool functions – that’s for sure. Thanks for stopping by Paul!

Hello Jaclyn, Wow! You did a lot of work with all those images showing people what to do.
I've had Camtasia for a few years now, and really glad I purchased it. Sounds like CamStudio will be good for those who are just starting out.
bye for now, Julieanne

Hahaha you got that right Julieanne! It took me about 4 hours total time to get this post finalized. From screen capturing the install images, to putting text on the images, to uploading it to wordpress (with some tech issues that I won’t go into here) it took me waay longer than I expected. To be honest, it would’ve been quicker if I had just recorded the install process it in a video format. But I had to uninstall my CamStudio in order for me to get the images for the actual installation steps
. I’m sure there will be others that will also appreciate what I laid out for them…especially the technophobe folks.
And yes, CamStudio is a great place to start for those just starting out with video marketing.

Yes Holly, CamStudio is pretty known in the internet marketing industry and is recommended for those just getting started with video marketing. Once video marketing is established in their marketing efforts, Camtasia is the paid recommendation.
If you have any questions or you get stuck at any point with the installation or getting set up with CamStudio, be sure to let me know so I can help you okay?
